Blossom and Yarn in full swing!

Imagine your wildest knitting dreams all played out in the splendour and sunshine of some of Norfolk’s most beautiful churches. Add a quintessential cup of English tea and the most scrumptious of food and cakes and you have Blossom and Yarn Wayland’s flagship crafting event of the year!

Blossom and Yarn is the brain child of local artist and crafter Lois Gill who, for the second time in two years,  has worked with a team of volunteers from across the country to create a unique, imaginative and stunning country festival that is raising much needed funds for parish churches.

Following the first event back in 2015 Blossom and Yarn is an amazing display focused on the biblical them of creation as the following from the Blossom and Yarn website explains:

In the beginning…

In the beginning a 10cm black knitted square was created. Quite soon they multiplied until 1000’s of multi- coloured ones joined them. These have been knitted by hundreds of lively volunteers, sometimes in a social monthly knit-in or at other times by people who live too far away from our little part of Norfolk to regularly join us, but still want to be involved. In fact, our most mature knitter lives in Lancashire and is a man.

Some of these squares have been reclaimed from our first Blossom & Yarn but many are brand new. These are all waiting to be crafted into life-sized animals, plant life and much, much more. We are knitting, crocheting and sewing other items in their entirety too.

The Creation

In 2017 our visitors will be taken on a wonderful journey through the story of the Creation. Beginning at St Margaret’s, Breckles you will experience the bringing forth of the light from the darkness and the creation of Night and Day.

Moving on to SS Peter and Paul’s church in Griston, you’ll see how the land and sea was separated and how the earth plays host to all plant life in its full glory.

At St Martin’s Thompson, we can see the importance of light in our life and the passing of time and Seasons in all their contrasts.

While at Holy Trinity in Great Hockham you will meet the creatures of the deepest oceans and all the birds of the air.

The idyllic and peaceful setting of St. Botolph’s in Stow Bedon is where you’ll meet animals from all over the Earth.

Finally, enter the Garden of Eden at Holy Cross Caston presented in all its abundance and glory by Adam & Eve .

Blossom and Yarn  is running from 10-5pm today and tomorrow and is an event not to be missed! Check out the website for details about tickets http://blossomandyarn.co.uk/
